Sunset Bay State Park draws visitors to its beautiful sandy beaches and its dramatic sea cliffs. Campers at the park can stroll along trails leading to nearby Shore Acres and Cape Arago state parks. The three parks are located along the Oregon coast southwest of Coos Bay.

Sunset Bay State Park Campground offers 121 general campsites as well as 3 ADA sites and 8 Yurts. Of the campsites, 25 have full hook-ups and 33 have electric and water hook-ups. Sixty-six campsites are designated for tents. Big Creek winds through the campground. The park also has two Group Campsites located in nearby Cape Arago State Park and a Hiker/Bicyclist site.

Group Campsites

Sunset Bay State Park's two group campsites are located at Norton Gulch in nearby Cape Arago State Park, about 2½ miles to the south. Both campsites are designated for tent camping. One site can accommodate up to 200 people and 10 vehicles. The other campsite holds up to 25 people and 6 vehicles. The entrance road is narrow and large vehicles are not recommended. The larger campsite does have an electrical hook-up for one RV. Campsite amenities include picnic tables, water spigots, fire rings, and vault toilets.

Key Sunset Bay State Park Campground Regulations

  1. Help prevent the spread of invasive insects by obtaining firewood locally.
  2. Quiet Hours extend from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  3. A curfew for visitors under age 18 is in effect from midnight to 5:00 AM.
  4. Dogs must be kept on leash and attended at all times. Dogs are not allowed in day-use area or park buildings.
  5. Bicycle riders under age 16 must wear helmets.

Attractions and Activities

  • Spend the day at Cape Arago State Park, 2½ miles to the south. Sandy beaches, tide pools, fishing, and beachcombing.
  • Children enjoy the Junior Ranger Programs for ages 6 - 12.
  • Attend summer interpretive programs at the campground amphitheater.
  • Visit neighboring Shore Acres State Park with rugged sandstone cliffs, lush flower gardens, a lily pond, Simpson Beach.
  • To the north is Yoakam Point State Park.
  • Take your camera for shots of beautiful Cape Arago Lighthouse.
