Sand Prairie Campground

Sand Prairie Campground is along the Middle Fork Willamette River, south of Hills Creek Reservoir, in the Willamette National Forest. Visitors to Sand Prairie Campground find good fishing in the river for cutthroat and rainbow trout. Several popular hiking trails in the area lead off along the river and through the forest. Nearby Hills Creek Reservoir is an excellent destination for swimming, fishing, boating, and water skiing.

Sand Prairie Campground features 21 campsites for RVs, trailers, and tents. The campground is spread through a forest of hazelnut, dogwood, cedar, and Douglas fir. The campground has no drinking water. All the campsites are first-come, first-served.

Sand Prairie Campground Location: Sand Prairie Campground is south of Oakridge, first 1.7 miles on Highway 58 and then south on Hills Creek Rd./Kitson Springs Rd. for 0.5 miles. Finally turn right on Forest Road 21 for 11 miles.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. Check carefully on the website when you make your reservation to be sure your vehicle will fit your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, firewood from outside the area is not permitted.

  • Enjoy the multi-use, 27-mile long Middle Fork National Recreation Trail.
  • Make the short hike up to the Huckleberry Mountain Lookout for wonderful panoramic views.
  • Enjoy boating, water skiing, fishing, and swimming at Hills Creek Reservoir.
  • Fish along the Middle Fork of the Willamette River.
  • Visit the Warner Mountain Lookout.
  • Hike on the Larison Creek Trail.
  • Drop by the Oakridge Greenwaters Park for a picnic and a stroll along the river.
  • Go off-road at Huckleberry Flats OHV.

  1. Use of chainsaws is not permitted in the campground.
  2. Quiet Hours extend from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  3. Dogs must be kept on leash and attended at all times.
  4. Campfires may only be in campground provided fire pits.
