Fernview Group Campground rests near Boulder Creek close to its confluence with the South Santiam River, 10 miles east of Cascadia. Visitors access the river by a stepped trail. The Rooster Rock Trail is a popular hiking route. Rooster Rock is an enormous pillar of andesite and basalt, popular with rock climbers. Other inviting trails are nearby. Also, the historic Santiam Wagon Road (now a trail) is is enjoyed by mountain bikers and hikers alike.

Fernview Group Campground was originally a standard campground but has been converted to a group site. It is operated by Linn County Parks & Recreation. The group campground can accommodate up to 75 people and 17 vehicles. Each of the original 11 campsites has a picnic table and firepit. The site is best suited to small RVs or trailers along with tents.

Attractions and Activities

  • Take the House Rock Trail past House Rock and on to House Rock Falls.
  • Visit the Long Ranch Elk Viewing Area west of the Trout Creek Campground.
  • Hike on the 2.8-mile Trout Creek Trail and the Walton Ranch Interpretive Trail.
  • Hike on the Iron Mountain Trail with meadows, springs, alpine environments, and a tremendous variety of flora.
  • Discover the beauty of Cascadia State Park by following local hiking trails. Take the River Trail to the South Santiam River.
  • Hike the Soda Creek Falls Trail ascends to viewpoints of the magnificent falls.
  • Use caution when swimming in the river near Cascadia State Park. No lifeguards are on duty and currents can be strong. The swimming area is outside the park.
  • Visit the South Falls Historic District, including the South Falls Lodge.
  • Stop by the historic Santiam Wagon Road used by 19th century travelers.
  • Learn about the history of the Cascadia State Park when it was once resort which attracted guests to its mineral waters in Soda Creek.
  • Launch your boat into nearby Foster Reservoir for fishing, water skiing and wake boarding, and jet skiing.
  • Fish Foster Reservoir for bass, yellow perch, bluegill, crappie, bullhead catfish, Kokanee, and rainbow trout.
  • Head upstream and visit Whitcomb Creek County Park on Green Peter Reservoir.

Key Fernview Group Campground Regulations

  1. Fires are only permitted in designated fire receptacles and must be attended. Fires must be extinguished upon departure.
  2. Pets must be kept on leash and attended at all times.
  3. Quiet Hours extend from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  4. Prevent the spread of invasive pests by obtaining firewood locally.
