Joe Graham Horse Camp is near tiny Clackamas Lake in the Mt. Hood National Forest. A number of good riding trails are in the area, including the Pacific Crest Trail. Some trails lead to nearby Timothy Lake and others to Little Crater Lake. Clackamas Lake Campground, which also has facilities for horses, is nearby across the meadow.

Joe Graham Horse Camp offers 14 campsites to those with horses. Campsites can accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents. One site is a pull-through. Campsites have a variety of facilities for horses. Larger sites are intended for those with more horses.

  • Campsites #1, 3, and 4 each have 4 stalls each and are intended for those with between 3 to 4 horses.
  • Campsites #2, 5, and 7 have 3 stalls each for between 2-3 horses.
  • Campsites #8, 9, 13, and 15 have 2 stalls each for between 1-2 horses.
  • Campsites #10 and 11 only have hitching posts for from 1 to 3 horses each.
  • Site #12 is unknown, for 1-2 horses.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. Check carefully on the website when you make your reservation to be sure your vehicle will fit your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, firewood from outside the area is not permitted.

Attractions and Activities

  • Hike, mountain bike, or horseback ride on the Timothy Lake Trail which circles the lake, offering 12 miles of fairly level terrain and many nice views.
  • Hike on the nearby Pacific Crest Trail.
  • Visit the nearby Clackamas Lake Historic Ranger District, a Forest Service facility built in the early 1900s.
  • Fish for trout in Timothy Lake from shore or boat.
  • Enjoy a picnic at scenic Pine Point Day Use Area on Timothy Lake's west shore.
  • Make the short trip to Little Crater Lake. A barrier-free 800-foot long trail leads to a viewing platform.
  • Spend a day or more at beautiful Trillium Lake with boating, swimming, and fishing.

  1. Quiet Hours extend from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  2. Prevent the spread of invasive pests by obtaining firewood locally.
  3. Fires are only permitted in designated fire receptacles and must be attended. Fires must be extinguished upon departure.
  4. Pets must be kept on leash and attended at all times.
  5. Secure food and scented items from bears.
