Rock Creek Campground is set on the southwestern shore of Crane Prairie Reservoir in the Deschutes National Forest.

Crane Prairie Reservoir is a premier bird watching area. Osprey, blue heron, kingfishers, bald eagles, and many other species are common at the lake. Fishing for trophy rainbow trout is another big attraction for visitors. The current record rainbow caught here is 19 pounds.

Rock Creek Campground offers visitors 30 single campsites and 2 double sites. Campsites can accommodate RVs, trailers, and tents. Nearly all the sites are spacious and well separated from one another. Many sites are along the shore of the lake.

General Camping Information

Opening and closing dates of campgrounds are only estimates, usually dependent on weather conditions. Not all campsites can accommodate trailers or RVs of all lengths. Check carefully on the website when you make your reservation to be sure your vehicle will fit your campsite.

In order to prevent the spread of invasive insects, firewood from outside the area is not permitted.

Attractions and Activities

  • Birding is popular at the reservoir. Watch for mountain chickadees, woodpeckers, Sandhill cranes, Canada geese, bald eagles, osprey, and many others.
  • Fish for rainbow trout, usually in the 4 to 10-pound range. Also, fish for brook trout, kokanee, largemouth bass, and crappie.
  • At Osprey Point to find artificial osprey nesting platforms erected after natural snags toppled from age.
  • Take advantage of boat launching ramps around the lake. Both motorized and non-motorized boats are permitted. The maximum boat speed is 10 MPH. Float tubes can be launched from Rocky Point.
  • Stop by Crane Prairie Resort on the northeastern side of the reservoir. They have a store, bait and tackle shop, boat rentals, and shower and laundry facilities.
  • Near the Osprey Point Trail visit the historic Bill Quinn gravesite.

Key Rock Creek Campground Regulations

  1. Quiet Hours extend from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM
  2. Campfires may only be in campground provided fire pits.
  3. Help prevent the spread of invasive insects by obtaining firewood locally.
  4. Dogs must be kept on leash and attended at all times.
  5. Use of chainsaws is not permitted in the campground.
