Sheep Springs Horse Camp

Sheep Springs Horse Camp is located southeast of Mt. Jefferson in the Metolius River Basin area of the Deschutes National Forest. A trailhead at the campground connects to the popular Metolius-Windigo Trail, extending more than 100 miles from the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness south to Windigo Pass Near Crescent Lake.

Sheep Springs Horse Camp has 11 spacious campsites for those with horses. Each campsite has a 4-horse box stall.

Key Sheep Springs Horse Camp Regulations

  1. Bring only weed-free certified hay. (No local forage available.)
  2. Horses must be kept in stalls provided, and may not be tethered or picketed outside of stalls.
  3. Quiet Hours extend from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  4. Prevent the spread of invasive pests by obtaining firewood locally.
  5. Fires are only permitted in designated fire receptacles and must be attended. Fires must be extinguished upon departure.
  6. Pets must be kept on leash and attended at all times.
  7. Secure food and scented items from bears.
